The Maggie Kat Connection.
As a young maker and creator, Maggie Kat is sharing the story of our virtual visits and creative connections during the Pandemic. I cherish the time we have spent together in 2020 and I am thrilled to witness the evolution of her drawing style.
Thank You for sharing Maggie Kat and for being the first contributor in 2021 to my ‘Connections Blog’. I am sure many will be inspired by your wisdom and creativity!
Maggie Kat’s Story:
I am Maggie Kat Anderson. I’m a young artist in Nova Scotia. I am 11 years old and I have a big devotion as well as passion for art.
April and I have been art partners and friends for a long time. April is a very artistic, lovely and creative person. She always has a positive spirit and always finds the good in things. We have been doing art calls on FaceTime in 2020, and sharing our art with each other via text and instagram. April and I have created an open and creative space for each other in many ways.
Maggie’s Thoughts. Why Make Art?
It is something that if you have a problem then you go do art and take your mind off it. Viewing art can be about what you see deeply in the picture, and that makes you consider what emotion or mystery the artist has put in it. Art is what April and I go to because it relaxes us and it shows our emotions without words. And, that right there is absolutely incredible! Art can get you away from the negativity and lets you see the bridge beyond it. Then there are possibilities and a different world to jump to.
Why Doing Art in the Pandemic is Important.
When the pandemic happened I kept getting news popping up on my Ipad saying how the pandemic was getting worse and spreading where I live, in Canada, in Europe and everywhere in the world. And that was terrifying. The unknown is the scariest thing known to man, and that is what it still is, but when April and I connected it pushed negativity aside. It meant I had a safe and calming space to go to at the beginning of this.
Doing Art Together.
April and I both have an open eye for art and how it changes the world. Art can come in different styles but it always represents the same things: Emotion! Life! Mystery! and the World of Creativity! When April and I do art together we can see things and inspire each other, and then also make that inspiration into our own. We can see life with a different perspective and can share with each other, and that is why we made a comforting, and lovely virtual art space to do art in.
How we started. Connecting Lines.
We made a line that just started with little sections that we drew and made pictures from. Then as we kept sending pictures and art work back and forth the inspiration grew and our art grew more. We kept making that inspiration into our own. Our sharing ideas with each other turned into techniques and then finally came into an art style. April kept using different lines to make patterns in her pictures. I used that idea but then did it my own way. My drawing grew into an art style and I found that amazing. So the line did grow and still is. It was amazing seeing how such little sections of lines grew into a whole different world of creative possibilities in my art.
Different Spaces and Places.
I do always have a safe place with my family and mum, but sometimes when you don’t want to talk and want to get your mind off things art is the place to go. Sometimes you can’t physically go anywhere but you just want a different place and mindset to be in. And, sometimes even different people around you, even if it is virtual. Everyone should be able to be in a few different places in their life to have different people around and different environments so they don’t get stuck with one for too long.
