Nature Corsage-Boutonnière. Creative Prompt.

As the temperature was getting colder and I was spending less time creating outdoors, I wondered about eco-art creations that could be assembled quite quickly. I wanted this nature project to honour my outdoor garden time in a replenishing and contemplative way, but not be quite as time intensive or immersive as my layered nature circles can be. From that creative inspiration and simpler project intention - came the idea of nature corsages and boutonnières.

Creative Prompt: “Nature Corsage-Boutonnière”

Invitation.

I invite you to gather natural items and decorative accents and create for yourself (or someone else) a nature corsage or boutonnière. This personal eco-art prompt is a fun way to celebrate nature in the moment and honour yourself!

You can imagine wearing the corsage or boutonnière and have your thoughts wander…
• Where?… What is the occasion?… Is it a time of celebration?… Who are the people you might be gathering with?.. What is the outfit or colours you might be wearing?… Is there a theme?… etc.…
• This can be a fun way to imagine a narrative from a decorative visual prompt of your own playful creation.

• Or… Maybe you are creating a nature corsage in the moment just for you’ and ‘just because’ …. a visual self-care moment of quiet celebration of ‘You’ through the decorative and methodical compilation of visual and tactile elements.
• Times continue to be tough and challenging and this can be a quick and meaningful creative reminder that you are worthy, deserving and special (despite the worry, and struggle of life in pandemic times).

• Or… Just maybe your intention is necessitated from a place of revisiting loss and supporting remembrance….memorializing a person who has passed (or honouring a meaningful moment) - missed and cherished as you acknowledge your feelings, mindfully reflect, and then focus in on with reverence and creativity.

Make one or make many eco-art creations.
Make it a daily or weekly ritual.
Or make it an ongoing homage to the change of seasons,
and the gift of creating from what is available… You choose your intention!

Materials.

• Nature treasures, accent materials (glass beads, ribbon, and string) - and a camera to capture your design for this creative prompt.

A Golden Corsage to Honour the Transition into Autumn

Golden Nature Corsage Compilation • April •  2021

Wearing flowers pinned to clothing dates as far back as Ancient Greece, when small bunches of fragrant flowers and herbs were worn at weddings to ward off evil spirits. During the 16th and 17th centuries, corsages and boutonnières may have been a part of daily life to prevent disease and to ward off evil spirits, but over time, they became special-occasion pieces.
