My Journey to Art Hives. Cynthia.
Sharing Cynthia’s Art Hive story from the most recent issue of the Ontario Art Therapy Association’s Tapestry. Part 1 of the OATA Art Hive story from May 2022 can be found here. Cynthia’s journey is an inspiring one: from student through trainings in the Art Hive model and the Open Studio process, to facilitating regular and welcoming Art Hive offerings in Ontario. Thanks for sharing your story Cynthia.
Above are some of the impactful words shared by the participants after one of our spring virtual art hives. Cynthia also shared from that art hive…
“The art hive is self-directed and a flattened hierarchy where we are each teachers/students for each other and this was portrayed from the get go at the 1st OATA Art Hive. I shared that although we were not physically together in a space, I felt connected to the others in the space being able to see them virtually working away on their art making and sharing our thoughts at the end.”

The nature art pictured above was a gratitude creation after one of our monthly OATA virtual art hives facilitated by Cynthia. I incorporated the purple OATA colours in my eco-art with a nod to our supportive group of nine participants with each of the main elements (9 feathers, rose pinecones and yellow leaves etc). I particularly enjoyed creating with the two-tone leaves. The painterly markings of yellow on these leaves representing each unique individual within our shared collective experience.
