Heather’s Miniatures.
The Heather & April Connection.
Heather and I connected several years ago when she became an art therapy volunteer for my evening drop-in studio art group in the long-term care home where I practiced. I immediately witnessed her warmth and ease of interactions with the residents. Heather so willingly and generously shared her humour, interest, and creative expertise with everyone she worked with. I am also blessed to have a couple of miniatures in my art collection now that beautifully and cheerfully brighten areas of my home. It has been truly wonderful to remain connected during the pandemic via our shared creative interests, and supportive friendship. Thanks for sharing your art story and lovely creations Heather! They are tiny treasures!
Heather’s Story.
I am Heather, a creative soul that loves to create and express myself artistically. Interacting and helping others brings me so much joy. I like to hear about other people’s ideas, thoughts and collaborate with them to see their ideas and thoughts through. Art can sometimes speak volumes without even saying a word or can bring on wonderful conversation or moment. Art can be so freeing.
Sharing and Show and Tell.
As I often stayed later to help with cleanup after the art group, April and I connected via our interests around art-making and supporting others in their creative journeys.
We began to share fun art materials we had recently discovered, dollar-store finds, and creative projects we were working on. This creative ‘show and tell’ continued throughout 2020 as we connected virtually to share our ideas, inspirations and in-progress art pieces.
Why Miniatures?
I feel like you can always find a special place for a tiny piece of artwork. It’s nice to paint and share with others these miniature expressions of my ideas and creativity in the hope that they might bring a smile, a beautiful thought or memory to mind.
My Inspiration.
I am inspired by colour and nature. I enjoy exploring new places on the weekend, taking photos and collecting ideas for future art pieces. It feels amazing to create something from nothing, whether I begin with a tiny blank canvas, oval wood piece or a rock from a recent nature walk
Ravine Rocks.
During 2020 I began to leave painted rocks in the ravine where I go for walks. I wanted to make someone smile and maybe feel less alone. Not being able to volunteer in the art room due to the pandemic, I wanted to find another way to give back, and leaving my painted rocks gave me an opportunity to pay it forward – share with someone a little piece of inspiration and hope.

Painting in the Pandemic.
Painting during this past year was so important because it gave me some time to express myself and just have breaks from all the worries and stress related to Covid 19. When I focus on my art, I feel good. Being creative has also made me feel useful and productive while having to spend so much time at home during this Covid lockdown.
Connecting with Others.
I so enjoy sharing my creativity. Recently I was asked to share some of my art with my colleagues on a zoom meeting and my son created the photo collage below:
